Welcome to the sites of the ANKABIRO Breeding Station devoted to the ancient Turkish shepherd dog, who is connected with the ancestors of the mastiffs described in the Assyrian art. In Turkey, the country of origin, there are distinguished many variant types of these dogs. In Europe they are registered by Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI, the International Cynological Federation) under the standard Coban Köpegi (331) the Anatolian Shepherd Dog, in Czech Anatolský pastevecký pes.
On these sites you will find information on the Anatolian Shepherd Dog, history of the breed, breeding and training, specimens of our breeding station, observations and experience from the life with them, photographs and videos and relating important or interesting references. For completion and deeper understanding the relations between the Anatolian Shepherd Dog and original Turkish shepherd dogs we also present here a brief overview of the national Turkish breeds and their charakteristics.
